Body found in waters beneath Nimitz Hwy. bridge

Police are investigating the death of a man whose body was found this morning floating in waters beneath a bridge on Nimitz Highway near the intersection with River Street in downtown Honolulu.

Emergency crews were sent to the area at 7:48 this morning to retrieve the body.

Bryan Cheplic, a spokesman for the city Emergency Services Department, said the man appeared to be in his late 40s or early 50s.

He was pronounced dead at the scene at 8:13 a.m.

Police have classified the case as an unattended death.
