Hawaiian treasures at the pink hotel on Friday

Wearable art and Niihau shells will be the focus of two presentations at the newly renovated Royal Hawaiian Hotel on Friday.

"The Sway of the Shells: Hawaiian, Culture, Fashion and Hula" takes place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event includes fashion shows at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., and in the afternoon, designs from Nakeu Awai and Niihau shell lei from Pamela Kailikini Dow will be featured. In addition, Joe and Shirley Recca and members of Halau Hula o Namakahulali will perform hula and music.

Those who want a jump start can visit a Mea Makamae marketplace from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
