Memorial held today for Hawaii Guard soldier Cwislyn Walter

A memorial service for Spc. Cwislyn K. Walter of the Hawai'i Army National Guard was held today at Borthwick Mortuary in Downtown Honolulu.

Walter, 19, a Farrington High graduate, died Feb. 19 in a vehicle accident outside Kuwait City. She was deployed with the Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 29th Brigade Special Troops Battalion, 29th Infantry Brigade Combat Team.

The family is requesting monetary donations in lieu of flowers as Walter's family plans to take her to Pohnpei, Micronesia, for interment.

U.S. and state flags were flown at half-staff today in honor of Walter.
