FRANKFURT — A 20-year-old handball player collapsed during a game for the German under-21 team and died.

Sebastian Faisst briefly regained consciousness after collapsing during Tuesday's game against the Swiss junior team in Schaffhausen, Switzerland, the German handball federation said Wednesday. His condition deteriorated and he was pronounced dead after doctors had tried to revive him for an hour.

An autopsy will be performed in Zurich, Switzerland.
