University of Hawai'i senior Carolina Perez is the Western Athletic Conference Golfer of the Week following her top-10 finish at last week's Fresno State Lexus Classic.

Perez, from Ibague, Colombia, had the best individual finish from the four WAC schools competing in Fresno. She tied for eighth place at 4-over par 220, with rounds of 73-73-74. It was the second-best finish of her career. Her rounds of 73 tied for her low round this season.

The award is Perez's first of her career. Through six tournaments this season, she has a 77.6 stroke average, second-best on the team.

Perez and her Rainbow Wahine teammates were in San Jose, Calif. for the Juli Inkster Spartan Invitational that was canceled yesterday because of persistent rain and unplayable conditions.

The first round was suspended Monday after about six holes and no golf was played yesterday. The 'Bows return to Hawai'i and next host the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational March 16 to 18 at Kane'ohe Klipper.

SOCCER

UH SIGNS FOUR

The University of Hawai'i women's soccer team has signed four players with all-state credentials — Chelsey Goo and Kaitlynn Holt of Mililani, Chaney Lopez of Kapolei and Skye Shimabukuro of Kaua'i.

Goo was a four-year varsity player and team captain. Holt helped the Trojans finish third in the state this season. Lopez led Kapolei to three state tournament berths. Shimabukuro was named to the Division II all-state team three years.

Hawai'i head coach Pinsoom Tenzing calls Goo "a fabulous soccer player," Holt "a tremendously sound player," Lopez "a fiery competitor," and Shimabukuro "a tremendous striker."

The four will join the Rainbow Wahine for the 2009 season.
