Hawaii to get $10.7 million in stimulus funds

Advertiser Staff

Hawai'i will receive more than $10.7 million in stimulus funds for anti-crime projects, in addition to nearly $44 million in transit funds, according to federal lawmakers.

About 60 percent of the funds will go to the state, $3 million to the city, $366,000 to the Big Island, $274,000 to Maui county and $191,000 to Kaua'i county.

"These funds are available to support a wide range of law enforcement and criminal justice initiatives," Sens. Daniel K. Inouye and Daniel K. Akaka. "The use of these stimulus funds will cause a positive ripple effect in our local economy during these difficult economic times."

The stimulus funds are part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Plan that Congress has approved.
