NFL: Browns sign free agent safety Adams

Associated Press

CLEVELAND — The Cleveland Browns signed safety Mike Adams on Friday, giving them insurance in case they lose Sean Jones to free agency.

Adams started five games for Cleveland last season and also was a free agent. But with Jones expected to visit the Philadelphia Eagles, the Browns decided to keep Adams around.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Adams joined the league in 2004 as an undrafted free agent with San Francisco. He made 42 tackles and two interceptions last year, and also played on special teams.

Browns general manager George Kokinis said Adams "possesses the characteristics we believe in" and praised his versatility.
