AlohaCare seeks nonprofits to award $40K in grants

Advertiser Staff

AlohaCare is seeking nonprofit organizations statewide to award $40,000 in grants as part of its annual AlohaCare Community Conscience Award program.

The award was established last year as a tribute to the late Rev. Frank Chong, a lifelong community advocate and founding board member of AlohaCare, a local nonprofit health plan. Up until his death in March 2008, Chong served as AlohaCare's manager of government and community relations.

AlohaCare will award grants to organizations that focus on the prevention and/or treatment of childhood obesity, asthma or diabetes, as well as nonprofits that provide access to care for children and adolescents. Eight selected organizations will receive $5,000 each. The deadline to submit a completed application is April 30.

Completed applications must be postmarked or faxed to AlohaCare by April 30. Applications can be mailed to 1357 Kapiolani Blvd., Suite 1250, Honolulu, HI 96814. Faxes can be sent to 973-0203 on Oahu or 800-830-7222 on the Neighbor Islands. Applications are available at www.AlohaCareHawaii.org or by calling 973-0571 on Oahu or 800-434-1002 on the Neighbor Islands.
