Advertiser Staff

LIHUE, Kauai — Certification under the National Organic Program will be the topic of a workshop March 28 for Kauai farmers, beekeepers, ranchers, processors and handlers.

Louisa Wooten, chair of Hawaii Organic Farmers Association and co-owner of Kauai Kunana Farms, will be leading the workshop, which will explain the steps to certification, compliance issues such as record-keeping, and information on the U.S. Department of Agriculture Cost-Share Assistance Program.

The Cost-Share Program is funded through 2010 and will re-imburse eligible operations for 75 percent of their certification costs up to $750.

The workshop cost is $50 and includes a one-year membership in HOFA. It will be held 1-5 p.m. at the Lihue Library meeting room. For more information go to www.hawaiiorganicfarmers.org.
