One of South Korea's most famous celebrities is scheduled to come to Hawai'i on Tuesday to make an appearance in federal court. The singer and actor known as Rain (Chung Ji Hoon) is a defendant in a case that resulted from a canceled concert scheduled at Aloha Stadium in 2007.

Click Entertainment, whose president is Lee Seung Soo, has filed a suit against Rain claiming up to $40 million in damages and potential lost revenue. Click was the local promoter for a Rain World Tour concert scheduled for June 15, 2007, and sold tickets for the event, including VIP seats at $500.

Click contracted with a company that supposedly had rights from JYP Entertainment to set up Rain's concerts abroad. The concert was canceled shortly before its scheduled date. News of the cancellation was in South Korean media before the local promoter even knew about it.

Ticket purchasers were refunded their money, but sponsors were affected, among them KBFD. As a media sponsor, KBFD exchanged advertisements for VIP tickets with Click Entertainment. After broadcasting many prime-time spots and distributing tickets, the canceled concert left this company shortchanged for advertisements with a value of $15,000.

In addition, the cancellation of the concert left many fans in the Islands in doubt about future Korean celebrity events, and may have affected ticket sales.

Rain is an accomplished singer and actor with many Korean pop hits and successful K-drama titles. Rain was in "Sang Doo, Let's Go To School," "Full House" (co-starring Song Hye Kyo) and "A Love To Kill." His K-drama "Full House" was a huge hit in Asia, especially in Thailand. Rain also was named one of Time magazine's 100 most influential people in the world in 2006.

Click Entertainment president Lee Seung Soo was a new Hawai'i resident when he tried to put together the concert event. He is now spending more time in South Korea than in Hawai'i.

Click unsuccessfully sought to press suit against Rain and JYP Entertainment in South Korea in 2007.
