Modern Persia on screen

For a taste of Persian culture this weekend, head over to the Doris Duke Theatre's Iranian Film Festival, which continues through Wednesday.

The ongoing film series features comedies and dramas that address the contemporary issues in Iran. Today's "Maxx" is a comedy of errors and tomorrow's "Unwanted Women" explores sexism and censorship.

Showtimes today and tomorrow are 1 p.m., 4 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Da Spot will sell Middle Eastern food in the Honolulu Academy of Art's Luce Pavilion courtyard from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Movie descriptions, trailers and information about the other films in the festival is available by calling 532-8700 or clicking the Doris Duke Theatre link on www.honoluluacademy.org.
