BYU-Hawaii hosts Humboldt St. in NCAA-II men's basketball tourney opener

Third-ranked Brigham Young-Hawai'i was picked as the top seed in the NCAA II Men's Basketball West Regional and will host a four-team sub-regional starting Friday at Cannon Activities Center in La'ie.

The Seasiders (25-1), the Pacific West Conference champions, will host eighth seed Humboldt State (20-11) at 7:30 p.m. Friday. Fourth seed Cal State Dominguez Hills (21-6) will face fifth seed Central Washington (18-6) at 5 p.m. The winners will play at 7:30 p.m. Saturday for a spot in the regional championship game, which will be hosted by the highest seed remaining on March 17.

Western Washington (21-6) received the region's second seed and will host the other sub-regional. It will face seventh seed Seattle Pacific (18-9), while third seed Cal Poly Pomona (20-6) will play sixth seed Cal State-San Bernardino (20-9).

The Seasiders have not faced any of the teams in the Western Regional during the regular season.

Ticket prices for the regional tournament are $8 reserved seats, $6 general admission, and $3 students with ID. For details, call 675-3764.

The NCAA quarterfinals, semifinals and championship is March 25, 26 and 28 at MassMutual Center Springfield, Mass.
