Aaron's restaurant to close atop Ala Moana

Advertiser Staff

Another Honolulu restaurant is closing because of the weak economy.

Aaron's Atop the Ala Moana announced yesterday that it will not renew its lease after 25 years at the Ala Moana Hotel. The restaurant, which is owned and managed by Tri Star Restaurant Group LLC, will have its last day of service March 15.

Last month, Nick's Fishmarket, a fixture in Waikiki for 40 years, and Brew Moon in Ward Centre, closed.

Those closings followed the shutdown of Cisco's Cantina in Kailua in January and Compadres in Ward Centre last fall.

"Aaron's Atop the Ala Moana has enjoyed 25 terrific years serving the people and visitors of Hawai'i," said Tri Star Restaurant Group President and CEO Aaron Placourakis, in an e-mail. "Due to the softening economy, we have made the difficult decision to not renew our lease."

Employees at Aaron's will be offered employment at Tri Star Restaurant Group's other operations. The restaurant employs 30 full-time staff.

Gift certificates to Aaron's Atop the Ala Moana will be honored at the company's remaining restaurants: Sarento's Top of the I in Waikiki; Nick's Fishmarket Maui; Sarento's on the Beach, and Son'z Maui at Swan Court on Maui.
