Hawaii weather: Thunderstorms possible today

A weather feature northwest of Kauai will keep the weather unsettled across the state during the first half of the new work week, the National Weather Service said.

This feature is expected to drag eastward, clearing the islands by Wednesday night, forecasters said.

A new high pressure system northwest of the state will supply the islands with a cool northeast wind flow the rest of the week and into the weekend.

Here's a closer look at what to expect as the week begins:

Today: Scattered showers and thunderstorms after noon. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 79. East wind 9 to 11 mph becoming south. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Tonight: Scattered showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 68. East wind around 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

Tuesday: Isolated showers after noon. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 79. East wind around 10 mph becoming south. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Tuesday Night: Scattered showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 66. East wind around 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%.

Wednesday: Isolated showers. Partly cloudy, with a high near 81. East wind between 9 and 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Wednesday Night: Scattered showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 66. North wind around 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
