Kauai girl stopped from meeting online predator in Oklahoma, police say

Advertiser Staff

HANAMAULU – Kauai police believe they have thwarted the efforts of an Oklahoma man who they say used the Internet to entice a 16-year-old Hanamaulu girl to meet him on the Mainland.

The girl's grandparents reported her missing Saturday morning.

They began an investigation and learned the girl was en route to Oklahoma with stops in Honolulu, Los Angeles and Denver.

Police were told the girl had been in communication over the Internet with a man who purchased a ticket for her to fly to Oklahoma to meet him.

Kauai police officers contacted the Los Angeles Police Department Airports Division and informed them of the case.

A photo of the juvenile was sent electronically to LAPD, who detained the girl upon her arrival early Saturday afternoon at Los Angeles International Airport.

She was then turned over to California's Child & Welfare Protective Services and is being held at a juvenile detention facility in Los Angeles.

Arrangements are being made to transport the girl back to Kauai.

Police are continuing their investigation of this case.
