Hawaii surf: Advisories in effect for most islands

Advertiser Staff

A high surf advisory is in effect for the north- and east-facing shores of Oahu, Molokai and Maui as well as the west-facing shores of Kauai and Niihau, and the east-facing shores of Kauai.

Surf is expected to reach 6 to 8 feet along the east-facing shores of the affected islands today and 12 to 16 feet along the north- and west-facing facing shores of those islands included in the advisory.

The advisory is expected to remain in effect until 6 p.m. today.

Elsewhere on Oahu today, look for surf of 6 to 10 feet along west-facing shores and 1-2 feet along south-facing shores.

Outlook through Sunday, March 15: The current northwest swell will gradually diminish tonight and Wednesday. A new large north swell will build Thursday night and Friday. Therefore, surf heights are forecast to increase to near the high surf advisory threshold along north-facing shores Friday night and Saturday.
