Honolulu police today issued their third warning of the year to drivers, asking them to slow down and not drive after drinking.

From March 1 through Saturday, police made 84 arrests for driving under the influence.

They also issued 1,616 citations for speeding, four for racing on a highway, 69 for seatbelt violations, 62 for pedestrian-related violations and 95 for hazardous moving.

There have been 17 fatal accidents this year on Oahu, compared to nine at the same time last year.

Police have said they will be stepping up impaired-driving checkpoints in the coming weeks.
