Hawaiian Air is nation's most punctual in January

Advertiser Staff

Hawaiian Airlines led the industry in January for on-time performance, fewest flight cancellations and fewest misplaced bags.

The U.S. Department of Transportation reported that 90.8 percent of Hawaiian's flights were on time during the month, exceeding the industry average of 77.0 percent by 13.8 percentage points.

Only 30 of Hawaiian's 6,273 total flights were cancelled during the month, and the carrier reported an industry-low 2.01 mishandled baggage reports for every 1,000 passengers served.

The national on-time arrival rate of 77 percent was the best for the month of January in three years, according to the DOT report. After Hawaiian, the second and third most punctual airlines were Southwest Airlines and ExpressJet Hat 83.3 percent and 79.8 percent respectively.

Delta Air Lines Inc.'s Comair unit had the lowest rate, at 56.7 percent, followed by SkyWest Inc.'s Atlantic Southeast at 68.3 percent and Alaska Air Group Inc. at 71.5 percent.
