The city will hold a special memorial tribute on Monday in honor of the death of City Councilwoman Barbara Marshall.

The public is invited to attend the memorial tribute at 4:45 p.m. Monday at the Mission Memorial Auditorium on the Fasi Civic Center grounds, said Mayor Mufi Hannemann.

Marshall died last month after losing her battle with cancer. She was first elected to the city council in 2002 and was reelected to her Windward seat in November.

"We encourage the public to attend this special tribute to an outstanding public servant," Hannemann said. "I will be joined by many of her colleagues on the council as we bid aloha to a dear colleague and friend."

Before being elected to the city council, Marshall was a television reporter and was the the first person in Hawai'i to anchor a live morning television newscast. She also took the helm of "Action Line," which was an integral part of the KHON Channel 2 News and served as executive producer for some of Hawai'i's top-rated newscasts.
