Inouye, Akaka say Hawaii to get $30 million for weatherization, energy programs

Advertiser Staff

Hawaii will receive nearly $30 million in weatherization funding and energy efficiency grants as part of the economic stimulus package, U.S. Sens. Daniel K. Inouye and Daniel K. Akaka said today in a news release.

$25 million will go to the State Energy Program, which funds rebates to consumers for home energy improvements, development of renewable energy projects and efficiency upgrades for state and local government buildings.

$4 million will go to the Weatherization Assistance Program, which allows an average investment of $6,500 per home in energy efficiency upgrades and will be available for families making up to 200 percent of the federal poverty level — or about $50,720 in Hawaii.
