Schofield ceremony welcomes 4,500-soldier Stryker brigade home from Iraq

Soldiers of the 2nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team uncase the unit's colors this morning during a ceremony at Schofield Barracks marking the homecoming for about 4,500 soldiers from a 15-month deployment to Iraq.

The 2nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division was welcomed home to Schofield Barracks this morning after a 15-month deployment to Iraq.

The 4,500 soldiers were honored at a ceremony on Sills Field.

During its deployment, the combat team conducted more than 30,000 patrols, many with Iraqi army counterparts.

The soldiers found more than 1,100 weapons caches and completed more than 150 school projects and 20 hospital projects.

"Warrior" Brigade soldiers earned four Bronze Stars with the valor device during their tour, along with 15 Army Commendation Medals with "V" device and 35 Purple Hearts.

A celebration for the brigade is scheduled later this afternoon, with food, beverages and entertainment on tap at the Nehelani Community Club on Schofield Barracks.
