Man in moped crash determined to have died of heart attack

Advertiser Staff

An autopsy has determined that Jason Snell, 34, of Kailua-Kona, died from a heart attack and not from injuries he sustained in a Feb. 3 moped crash.

Snell was riding a moped south on Ali'i Drive when he struck the rear of a 1995 Nissan Pathfinder stopped on the roadway in front of Magic Sands Beach. The driver of the Nissan, a 16-year-old Kailua-Kona girl, and her two passengers were not injured.

Because Snell did not die as a result of the crash, the year-to-date total for Big Island traffic fatalities has been reduced from five to four.
