Hawaiian Airlines led the industry in January in on-time performance, fewest flight cancellations and fewest misplaced bags.

The U.S. Department of Transportation reported that 90.8 percent of Hawaiian's flights were on time during the month, exceeding the industry average of 77.0 percent by 13.8 percentage points.

Only 30 of Hawaiian's 6,273 total flights were canceled during the month, and the carrier reported an industry-low 2.01 mishandled baggage reports for every 1,000 passengers served.

The national on-time arrival rate of 77 percent was the best for the month of January in three years, according to the DOT report. After Hawaiian, the second and third most punctual airlines were Southwest Airlines and ExpressJet at 83.3 percent and 79.8 percent, respectively.

FIRST HAWAIIAN AIDS FOSTER CARE SYSTEM

The First Hawaiian Bank Foundation has awarded a $100,000 grant to Family Programs Hawaii to support an initiative that provides monthly visitation for siblings separated by the foster care system.

The two-year grant will support the agency's Project Visitation program. Family Programs Hawaii is a social service agency providing statewide services to nearly 4,000 children and families involved in the child welfare system.

First Hawaiian Bank Foundation is the charitable arm of First Hawaiian Bank. In 2008, the foundation and bank contributed $3.5 million to more than 350 nonprofit organizations. The foundation funds educational opportunities, access to healthcare, services for children and youth, and human service needs, as well as culture and the arts.

DEADLINE FOR FARM, RANCH HELP EXTENDED

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has extended until April 3 the deadline for farmers and ranchers seeking financial assistance from the agency's Natural Resources Conservation Service.

The programs are the Environmental Quality Incentives Program and the Wildlife Habitat Incentives Program.

Financial assistance is available through EQIP to agricultural producers who are willing to implement conservation measures that treat the targeted natural resource concerns on their land, including forestry, organic farming and energy conservation, according to a news release from the agency. WHIP provides technical and financial assistance to improve fish and wildlife habitat.

Interested farmers and ranchers are being asked to call their local NRCS Field Office for more information. To find the nearest office, go to www.pia.nrcs.usda.gov.
