2 Maui pedestrians hit by bus

KA'ANAPALI, Maui — Two elderly pedestrians were injured this morning when

they were struck by a bus carrying hotel workers.

The incident happened at 7:49 a.m. on Honoapi'ilani Highway at the Kai Ala

Drive intersection. Police said the bus was turning left from Kai Ala Drive

onto the highway, headed toward Napili, when it hit the pedestrians, who

were crossing the highway from Kai Ala Drive headed in the mauka direction.

One of the victims, an 81-year-old Lahaina man, suffered life-threatening

injuries and was taken to Maui Memorial Medical Center. The other victim, a

79-year-old Lahaina woman, was reported in stable condition at the hospital.

Neither the 66-year-old Kahului man who was driving the bus nor his 13

passengers were injured.
