Council candidates to debate on radio March 23

Advertiser Staff

Hawaii Public Radio will air a debate among many of the 11 candidates vying for the City Council Windward seat from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. March 23. The debate, which will be held before a studio audience in the Atherton Studio, will be broadcast on KIPO 89.3.

Candidates who have agreed to appear are Ikaika Anderson, Tracy Nakano Bean, John Henry Felix, Wilson Kekoa Ho, Steve Holmes, Sol Nalua'i, Tom Pico Jr. and Pohai Ryan.

The vacancy occurred because of the Feb. 22 death of Councilwoman Barbara Marshall, who held the seat representing Kailua, Kane'ohe and Waimanalo.

The special election to fill the seat will be conducted primarily as a vote-by-mail election. The city is scheduled to mail ballots to District 3 voters on or about April 3. The deadline for ballots to be returned to the city clerk will be April 23.
