Kolten Wong's three-run home run in the bottom of the eighth inning — his third homer of the game — snapped a 3-all game and lifted Hawai'i over Loyola Marymount, 6-5, today to complete a four-game series sweep before 1,546 at Les Murakami Stadium.

It was the first time since 1988 a UH player has hit three homers in a game and the fifth time done in school history.

The Rainbows (10-6) extended their win streak to seven, while the Lions (8-11) have dropped nine in a row.

With the game tied at 3 in the bottom of the eighth, Sean Montplaisir led off with a single to left-center against Chris Eusebio. But Kevin Fujii bunted a pop out to the first baseman. Greg Garcia lined a single off the first baseman's glove to put runners at first and second. Wong then blasted an 0-1 pitch to right-center to put UH ahead, 6-3.

In the top of the ninth, LMU scored on Ryan Hawthorne's RBI single that drove in Jonathan Johnson and a groundout by Kyle Spraker that scored Evan Simonitsch to make it 6-5. Hawthorne was stranded at third when Ryan Wheeler's fly out to right field ended the game.

Sam Spangler (2-0) pitched 2 2/3 innings, allowing two runs and three hits.

Eusebio (1-2) allowed three runs in 1 2/3 innings for LMU.

Matt Sisto went 5 2/3 innings, allowing three runs, six hits and three walks with one strikeout for the Rainbows, while Ramiro Carreon gave up three runs, six hits and a walk with four strikeouts in 5 1/3 innings for the LIons.

The hot-hitting Kevin Macdonald got the Rainbows on the board first, when he led off the top of the second with a homer left-center field, his second in as many games, to give UH a 1-0 lead.

Wong got into the power act when he led off the fourth with a home run to right, his second of the season, to increase UH's lead to 2-0.

The Lions took the lead in the sixth. With two outs, Angelo Songco walked and took second on Brad Bauer's single to center. Ollie Enos then ripped a three-run home run to center to put the LIons ahead, 3-2. Shon Roe walked and Sisto was pulled for Alex Myers, who got Jonathan Johnson on a fly to center to end the inning.

But the Rainbows responded in the bottom of the sixth when Wong tied it with a one out, solo home run to right-center off the scoreboard, his second blast of the game off Carreon. Carreon was replaced by Jordan McClintick, who walked Vinnie Catricala. After Catricala was caught stealing, Macdonald struck out to end the inning.
