The First Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment paid tribute to one of its own this afternoon at a memorial service for Lance Cpl. Thomas Reilly Jr.

Reilly, of London, Ky., was killed in Anbar province in December when a rocket-propelled grenade struck his vehicle.

He was 19.

Reilly was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star.

The service, at Fort Hase Beach on the Marine base in Kaneohe, was to be attended by the battalion and four members of Reilly's family.

About 1,200 Marines from the unit were deployed to Karmah, Iraq, in August 2008 and returned to Hawaii earlier this month.
