Hawaii weather: Skies expected to clear today

A band of showers has pushed east of the Big Island resulting in a decrease in clouds and rain today as the weather clears from west to east, the National Weather Service said.

Regular trade wind weather is expected to make a return Thursday as a high pressure area builds to the north, forecasters said.

It was 68 degrees at Honolulu International Airport at 4:30 a.m. today.

The trades will continue through the coming weekend.

Here's what to expect the rest of the work week:

Today: Isolated showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 79. East wind between 10 and 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Tonight: Isolated showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 65. East wind around 16 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Thursday: Isolated showers. Partly cloudy, with a high near 80. East wind around 16 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Thursday Night: Scattered showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 65. East wind around 17 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Friday: Isolated showers. Partly cloudy, with a high near 80. Breezy, with a east wind around 20 mph, with gusts as high as 23 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Friday Night: Scattered showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 66. Breezy, with a east wind around 21 mph, with gusts as high as 24 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
