Tennis: ITF pulls Davis Cup from Pakistan because of security concerns

Associated Press

LONDON — The International Tennis Federation says Pakistan has lost the right to host its Davis Cup series against the Philippines because of concerns about security.

Pakistan had been listed to host the best-of-five series to be played from July 10-12, but the ITF says Wednesday that the Philippines now will have the choice of venue.

The ITF says its Davis Cup committee voted to move the match on advice of its security consultants.

The decision comes a few weeks after militants attacked Sri Lanka's cricket team in Lahore, Pakistan. Six police officers were killed and seven team members injured. Several events have been pulled from Pakistan since the attack.
