The state Land Use Commission will being hearings tomorrow on D.R. Horton/Schuler Division's 11,500-unit Ho'opili project between Kapolei, 'Ewa and Waipahu.

Opponents worry that the addition of a project the size of Mililani would add to an already overburdened traffic situation in West O'ahu. Others have raised concerns about the loss of prime agricultural lands, pointing out that the project would include the area where Aloun Farms and three smaller farms operate.

Horton officials say traffic in the project will be offset by a mix of land uses, noting that up to roughly one-third of its housing units could incorporate a live-work environment. The developer also points out that the city's $5.4 billion rail project is expected to run through it. The developer has promised to help farmers relocate.

The initial hearings take place in Room 405 of the Leiopapa A. Kamehameha state office building at 235 S. Beretania St. Tomorrow's hearing begins at 9:30 a.m.; Friday's begins at 9 a.m.
