Hawaii weather: Wintry conditions for Big Isle peaks

An upper level disturbance will move across the state today and tonight, ushering in clouds and rain and a bit of wintry weather for the Big Island summits, the National Weather Service said.

A more typical trade wind regime is slated for Friday and into early next week, forecasters said.

Trade wind showers will be confined mainly to the windward and mountain areas.

Here's a closer look at what to expect during the next few days:

Today: Scattered showers, with thunderstorms also possible after noon. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 74. East wind between 9 and 16 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Tonight: Scattered showers and thunderstorms. Partly cloudy, with a low around 65. East wind around 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Friday: Isolated showers. Partly cloudy, with a high near 77. East wind around 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Friday Night: Scattered showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 65. East wind around 16 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Saturday: Isolated showers. Partly cloudy, with a high near 77. East wind around 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Saturday Night: Scattered showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 67. East wind around 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
