Heavy rains forecast for Oahu, Maui

Advertiser Staff

The National Weather Service says unstable moist conditions are producing locally heavy showers from north central Oahu, down the west coast and in south Oahu, from Waipahu to Kalaeloa.

The weather service says these showers could persist for several hours and occur over other parts of the island.

There is also a chance of thunderstorms.

The conditions are worse on Maui, where the weather service has issued a flood advisory that remains in effect until 3:30 this afternoon and may be extended.

The weather service says radar shows heavy rain near Wailuku, along the Hana Highway and over Upcountry, near Ulupalakua.

The weather service says additional heavy rain may develop in the afternoon hours.
