HALE'IWA
Man dies in apparent drowning at beach park

A man died of an apparent drowning yesterday afternoon.

The man, who appeared to be in his 30s, was pulled from the waters off Hale'iwa's Ali'i Beach Park at about 1 p.m., said Bryan Cheplic, spokesman for the city Emergency Services Department. Lifeguards performed CPR on the man until an ambulance arrived and transported him to an area hospital, he said.

The man initially was in critical condition, and later died, Cheplic said. The victim's name was not immediately available.

It was also not disclosed whether the man was a visitor or resident.
