ALA MOANA
Help needed preparing floating festival lanterns

Volunteers are needed to assemble the 2,000 lanterns for this year's lantern floating ceremony at Ala Moana Beach Park.

Volunteers and community groups will gather to assemble the lanterns on Saturdays and Sundays, from 1 to 4 p.m.

Meetings will be held weekends at Shinnyo-en Hawaii from Sunday to May 17, excluding April 5 and May 2, 3 and 10.

The lantern floating festival will be held May 25. The event attracts some 40,000 people, who send out lanterns from the shore at sunset with prayers for peace or in remembrance of loved ones who have died.

For more information on volunteering, call the Na Lei Aloha Foundation at 942-1848 or e-mail volunteer@naleialoha.org.
