Hana Highway in East Maui reopened after mudslide

Hana Highway was even harder to navigate today than usual. A mudslide in East Maui occurred around 9:30 a.m. and blocked the road for much of the day until the debris was cleared at mid-afternoon.

A mudslide in East Maui closed the Hana Highway at about 9:30 a.m.

Saturday at mile marker 21 approximately two miles on the Keanae

side of the Puaa Kaa State Wayside Park. No injuries were reported.

Hana Highway remained closed while county and state public works crews cleared mud and debris with heavy equipment. Maui Police reopened Hana Highway in the affected

area at 2:45 pm. The cause of the mudslide is unknown.
