Members of Team Aloha 2009, which will play in the all-star division of the Arizona Elite girls basketball tournament in Phoenix, April 17 to 19, will be introduced on Monday at 2 p.m., at the Neal Blaisdell Center Arena.

Player introductions, hosted by Honolulu mayor Mufi Hannemann and Hawai'i High School Athletic Association executive director Keith Amemiya, will be followed by a two-hour practice session.

The team was selected from 21 underclassmen, as recommended by sports journalists and based on their performance at February's Mufi Hannemann Basketball Jamboree. The girls competed for spots during tryouts held March 13-14.

Members of the selection committee were former University of Hawai'i Rainbow Wahine coach Vince Goo; Dennis Agena, founder of the Kalakaua Basketball Foundation; Da Houl, former Rainbow Wahine player and assistant coach, and Rodney Veary, assistant coach at 'Iolani School.

Team Aloha will be coached by Dana Takahara-Dias, director of the City's Department of Customer Services and former athletic director and girls basketball coach at Moanalua High School. She will be assisted by Hannemann. Amemiya will accompany the squad.

Team Aloha won the consolation championship in the Arizona Elite tournament last year. Two years earlier, Team Aloha won the prestigious Nike Storm + Swish Fall Shootout in Santa Barbara.
