One reason moms are fond of Hawaii MomsLikeMe.com is that they can chat with other moms on its discussion board any time of the night and day, making friends and sharing advice and stories without even leaving the house.
But another reason many women are fans of the site is exactly the opposite: It gives them a reason to leave the house.
Playdates, moms-only social events, casual outings to places like the zoo and beach, charity team projects and more are planned constantly by the moms of "Hawaii MLM," as it's known for short by regulars. Here's a sampling of what's coming up in just the next few weeks.
MARCH FOR BABIES TEAM
At least 15 moms, plus twice that many keiki, dads and other relatives, will band together under the Hawaii MomsLikeMe.com banner at the March for Babies on April 25.
To join the team and get the special Hawaii MLM shirt, register officially at www.marchfor babies.org/teams/650823. (Donations also are being taken there.) Then go to the Mommy Meet-Ups forum on Hawaii MomsLike.com and post in the team thread to let everyone know you're on board. Deadline: March 31.
TOY & BOOK SWAP
The giant Hawaii MomsLikeMe.com potluck picnic that was rained out March 14 has been rescheduled to 10 a.m.-2 p.m. April 18 at Waiau District Park. Bring your kids' old toys and books, and trade for stuff that other families bring.
Important: Be sure to post in the picnic thread in the Mommy Meet-Ups forum and let the organizer know what dish you're bringing.
MOMS' BIRTHDAY PARTIES
Kids aren't the only ones who deserve birthday celebrations. So some traditions begun recently on Hawaii MomsLikeMe.com are a birthday forum and group birthday-outings — for moms.
To get in on the fun, go to the Birthday Mamas discussion forum on Hawaii MomsLikeMe.com. Post your birthday ... and then join in the planning for the group outing when your birthday month rolls around.
SPRING BREAK MEET-UPS
The online moms are planning mini "meet-ups" over the spring break for keiki play. If you'd like to join in, go to the Mommy Meet-Ups forum, or see the Mommy Meet-Ups group, accessible from the homepage.
