Condition improves for man, 21, hurt in car crash

A 21-year-old Wahiawa man was in good condition at The Queen's Medical Center yesterday after an early-morning crash near Oahu Community Correctional Center on Kamehameha Highway.

Police said the man was in a white Dodge van heading west at 4 a.m. when he lost control and hit two wooden utility poles.

Rescue crews spent 45 minutes cutting the man out of his vehicle after the single-car crash, firefighters said. He was taken to Queen's in critical condition, but upgraded to good condition.

Speed and alcohol were factors, police said.

West-bound lanes on Kamehameha Highway between Puuhale and Middle streets were closed until HECO crews made repairs.
