LAHAINA
Meeting set on Wahikuli off-highway vehicle park

The Department of Land and Natural Resources will hold a public meeting from 6 to 8 p.m. March 31 at the Lahaina Civic Center to provide information on the proposed Wahikuli Off-Highway Vehicle Park.

The park is part of DLNR's proposed Recreational Renaissance plan, which focuses on restoring and preserving state parks, popular trails and ocean recreation facilities.

Future meetings will be used to establish a Community Inclusive Planning Advisory Committee to oversee planning and development of the park, according to DLNR. The committee will identify public concerns; act as advisers for the final design, development and management of the park; and assist with the development of sponsors or partners and future site development that further enhances the park and the community.

The DLNR said $500,000 will be provided in 2012 to develop the design and a master plan, with $3.5 million provided later that year for construction.

Additional information on the Recreational Renaissance plan, including specific project plans, is available at www.hawaii.gov/dlnr/recreate.
