Hawaii's military bases and facilities will receive more than $203 million from the economic stimulus package, U.S. Rep. Neil Abercrombie said today in a news release.

"This funding, which is over and above the annual Defense and Military Construction Appropriations bills, was passed by Congress to put people to work, many of them building, repairing, expanding and refurbishing high priority public works projects," said Abercrombie, who chairs the House Armed Services Subcommittee on Air and Land Forces.

"These military construction projects are important to maintain the mission capability of our bases and add to the quality of life for our men and women in uniform and their families."

Projects approved for stimulus funding this year include:

Pacific Missile Range Facility, repairs to runway — $31.5 million.

Navy installations, photovoltaic systems — $32.6 million.

Headquarters, U.S. Air Force Pacific, repairs — $31.5 million.

Marine Corps Base Hawaii, child development center — $19.4 million.

Naval Station Pearl Harbor, wharf and pier repair — $ 37.2 million.

Forty additional projects involve road, roof and bridge repair, water and wastewater system upgrades and Hickam Air Force Base runway and taxiway repairs, Abercrombie said.
