KILAUEA
1,400 marijuana plants seized, 2 to face charges

Two Kilauea men have been arrested and charged with first-degree commercial promotion of marijuana and prohibited acts related to drug paraphernalia.

Miles Martinez, 53, and Rickie Trinque, 48, were charged after Kaua'i police reported confiscating 1,400 marijuana plants ranging from one to two feet tall that were found in an open field where Martinez and Trinque allegedly were observed tending the plants.

The men were released on Saturday pending outcome of the investigation, Kaua'i officials said.
