Brigham Young-Hawai'i senior Latoya Wily, who finished second in the nation in rebounding and third in scoring and field-goal percentage, has been named to the Daktronics NCAA Division II All-America first team.

Wily averaged 13.9 rebounds and 25.6 points per game, shooting 59.5 percent from the field. She was named Pacific West Conference Player of the Week six times this season.

"Her leadership and character were her biggest contributions to our team," said Seasiders coach Wendy Anae. "She is always so positive and happy and she has never been concerned about personal glory or stats."

Wily, a Kahuku High alum from La'ie, was "honestly shocked" by her selection. "I never thought about anything like this," she said. "I just always wanted to help my team win and represent the school and my family the best way I could."

Earlier, Seasider men's player Lucas Alves also received first-team All-America honors.

VOLLEYBALL

UH RECRUIT A FAB 50

Kristiana Tuaniga, Hawai'i's lone recruit for the fall, made Volleyball Magazine's Fab 50 list. The 6-foot-2 middle blocker is in her senior year at Carson (Calif.) High School.

The Rainbow Wahine have received three verbal commitments from the Class of 2010 — 6-foot-1 hitters/blockers Kaela Goodman and Emily Hartong, and setter Mita Uiato. All are Southern Californians.

Moloka'i's Kalei Adolpho is among 60 players in prepvolleyball.com's "Elite Honorable Mention" for this year's sophomore class. The 6-1 middle hit .420 last fall.

Hawai'i Baptist Academy setter Kayla Kawamura is among 50 who earned "High Honorable Mention."

SOFTBALL

HILO PLAYERS HONORED

Hawai'i-Hilo's Amber Waracka and Sarah Weisskopf have earned Pacific West Conference weekly honors.

Waracka hurled three shutouts, striking out 23 in 19 innings and allowing just six hits, to earn Pitcher of the Week laurels.

Weisskopf was chosen Player of the Week after compiling a .389 batting average (7 for 18) and .667 slugging percentage. She also posted a 2-1 pitching record and 1.29 ERA.
