Surf advisory issued for all islands

The National Weather Service has issued a High Surf Advisory for all east facing shores in the islands and for north and west facing shores of Kaua'i and Ni'ihau.

Fresh to strong trade winds over the east of the state will continue to produce large and rough surf along east facing shores for the next couple of days, the weather service said. Surf should decline over the weekend.

Surf along the east facing shores will increase to 7 to 9 feet tonight and continue through Saturday morning.

A new west northwest swell will produce high surf into this afternoon along the north and west shores of Kaua'i and Ni'ihau. Waves there are expected to be 12 to 16 feet this morning and continue into the afternoon.

The advisory is now in effect until 6 a.m. Saturday.
