After nearly shooting his team to the front of the Interscholastic League of Honolulu Division II title chase, University High senior Noah Chong-Viernes was honored by ILH coaches as their DII Most Valuable Player.

Chong-Viernes, a 5-foot-10 guard, had been one of the league's top marksmen the past two seasons and hit six 3-pointers in a victory over Christian Academy and drained four 3s in a win over Le Jardin, finishing with 26 points.

His all-around play helped the Junior Rainbows finish 12-2 and in second place, earning a DII state tournament berth.

Chong-Viernes is joined on the ILH DII all-star first team by Hawai'i Baptist senior Kyle Barretta, Word of Life senior Brad Foster, Hawaiian Mission senior Seth Katada, Christian Academy sophomore Michael Urcia and Le Jardin junior John Whitty.

HBA's Keith Sugiura was named Coach of the Year after guiding the Eagles to the championship with a 13-1 league record.
