Fire causes $130,000 in damage to Palaumahu Street home

A weekend fire caused no injuries but resulted in $130,000 in damage to a two-story home on Palaumahu Street.

The fire started in a 10 foot-by-10 foot plastic storage shed outside the home at around 2:14 pm Saturday and made its way up the stairway, onto the balcony, and into the kitchen of a one-bedroom apartment, Kaua'i officials said.

According to a preliminary report, the male occupant of the apartment saw the smoke coming from the shed and tried to put out the fire with a garden hose, but was unsuccessful.
