Hawaii weather: Blustery trades, showers today

Trade winds are expected to increase today as a high pressure area far northeast of the islands moves slowly westward, the National Weather Service said.

The rather blustery trades will continue through the week, forecasters said.

Passing clouds and showers will affect mainly the windward and mountain sections of all islands, though some clouds and showers will reach the lee areas of the smaller islands from time to time.

Here's a closer look at what to expect during the middle of the work week:

Today: Scattered showers, mainly after noon. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 80. East wind between 15 and 18 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Tonight: Scattered showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 69. East wind around 18 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Wednesday: Isolated showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 80. Breezy, with a east wind between 18 and 22 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Wednesday Night: Scattered showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 69. Breezy, with a east wind around 21 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

Thursday: Isolated showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 81. Breezy, with a east wind between 21 and 23 mph, with gusts as high as 29 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Thursday Night: Scattered showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 68. East wind around 16 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
