Police seek information about armed robber of cab driver

Hawai'i County police said a 75-year-old taxi driver was robbed at gunpoint Saturday in Puna.

Police said the man said he was dispatched to pick up a customer at a bookstore on Maka'ala Street in Hilo and to take him to Ihope Road in Mountain View.

The driver told police that while the cab was on North Kulani Road, the passenger pulled a handgun and demanded the driver's wallet, cell phone and cash.

The driver said he was told to go to the Hawaiian Paradise Park subdivision, where the passenger got off in an area of 14th Avenue.

The robber is described as being in his 30s, 5 feet 7 with a thin build and short hair.
