Pearl Harbor sailor becomes Kosrae's first commissioned officer

Advertiser Staff

Arthur Cornelius today became the first commissioned officer from Kosrae, Micronesia with his promotion to the rank of Navy chief warrant officer at a ceremony at Pearl Harbor.

Cornelius' promotion also makes him the second commissioned officer from the Federated States of Micronesia.

After his chief anchors were removed at the ceremony, Cornelius' family pinned on his shoulder boards and placed on his new hat, designating him a chief warrant officer.

Alik J. Alik, vice president of the Federated States of Micronesia, told Cornelius, "We are very proud of your having been able to accomplish this significant step in your career and your life. Your steadfast devotion has brought great honor to the U.S. Armed Forces and Micronesia."

Cornelius will be part of the Pearl Harbor Arizona Detachment for another three to four weeks before leaving for chief warrant officer school in Newport, R.I. Then he will be stationed in Guam.
