Sermon on the Mount subject of discussion

Hawai'i Episcopal Bishop Robert L. Fitzpatrick will discuss Jesus' "Sermon on the Mount's" relevance in today's troubled world at the next in St. Andrew's Episcopal Cathedral's "Thursdays at St. Andrew's" discussion series.

The speech, "Ethical Decision-Making: Sermon on the Mount Reflections for Anxious Times," is scheduled at 5:45 p.m. Thursday in the cathedral's Von Holt Room.

This is the third "Thursdays at St. Andrew's" in which the bishop has spoken on the principles for living in difficult times espoused by William Temple, renowned teacher, theologian, preacher and the first Archbishop of Canterbury. Temple was author of the book, "Christianity and Social Order."

The lecture is free and open to the public.

AWARD-WINNING FILM TO DEBUT AT NEW LIFE

The award-winning film, "The Power of Forgiveness," will have its Hawai'i debut at 6 p.m. today at New Life Church.

The film features dramatic, heart-wrenching stories of the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks — and forgiveness in the streets of New York.

It follows similar stories in Northern Ireland, and from the Holocaust, Beirut and other tragedy sites.

Appearing in the film are Nobel Laureate Elie Wiesel; Zen master Thich Nhat Hanh; respected psychologist Marianne Williamson; and others.

Following the 75-minute film, Fred Luskin, director of the Stanford Forgiveness Project and best-selling author of "Forgive For Good," will lead a discussion on the healing power of forgiveness for individuals, families, communities and nations.

The event is sponsored by the Hawaii Forgiveness Project, Pacific Justice and Reconciliation Center, and Hawaii Consortium for Integrative Health Care.

BUDDHA CELEBRATION CONTINUES TODAY

A "Baby Buddha's Celebration," will continue from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. today at the Chinatown Cultural Plaza.

The event, sponsored by the Hawaii Buddhist Cultural Society, will feature a parade; Buddhist services; health, legal and educational booths; a foodbank; relics of Buddha and a Buddhist exhibition; a meditation class; and vegetarian bentos.

The celebration is free and open to the public.

CHABAD OF HAWAII TO OFFER CAMP GAN ISRAEL

Chabad of Hawaii will offer a Camp Gan Israel, part of a worldwide network of Jewish camps for children ages 3 to 15 this summer in Honolulu.

The camp is scheduled June 15 to July 3 at Lunalilo Elementary School.
