Holding tank fire closes Maui landfill

WAILUKU, Maui — A fire at a biodeisel holding tank caused the closure of the Central Maui Landfill today.

The cause of the 10:48 a.m. fire is under investigation. The landfill re-opened shortly after 1:30 p.m.

The tank belongs to Pacific Biodeisel, Inc. which has a biodeisel production plant at the Central Maui landfill site. No injuries were reported and the landfill was closed immediately with fire crews worked to contain the fire.

Fire engines from the Wailuku, Kula and Kahului fire stations, HAZMAT personnel and two water tankers responded.
